Known as one of the best small businesses on the south side of Indianapolis, Simons Bitzer is a CPA firm that goes far beyond typical accounting services for small- to medium-sized businesses. Serving a dynamic range of clients, Simons Bitzer offers strategic business planning, finance advisory, tax planning and compliance, outsourced accounting, auditing and fraud prevention, financial reporting and analysis.
When I started at Simons Bitzer, Spectrum Technology was our technology provider and trusted adviser, but we limited our engagement to save a few dollars and instead tried to handle technology issues ourselves
This meant: I had to do it.
I vividly remember the moment that changed our engagement with Spectrum Technology.
I was fumbling my way through installing some 1099 tax software when I ran into a serious emergency (otherwise known as: I really messed things up). I was totally panicked and didn’t know what to do. The only resource I could think of was Spectrum Technology, so I called them for help. They instinctively knew what to do and resolved my issue in minutes.
After they got me out of that mess, I thought to myself, “Why on earth was I trying to do this myself anyway?”
I knew at that moment we had to shift our thinking from cost-focused to value-focused and leverage Spectrum Technology strategically.
Today, we are a fully managed Spectrum client. If we have a problem, first we reboot (hey, that works sometimes). If that doesn’t fix it, we call or email Spectrum to open a support ticket – and that’s it.
Before becoming a managed client with Spectrum, I was mostly consumed with administrative tasks and fixing technology problems. Now, with Spectrum handling 100 percent of our technology needs, I manage the human resource area of Simon Bitzer. I’m responsible for recruiting and training of new employees as well as managing human resource requirements with our seasoned team members. There’s no way I could be doing this if I was still struggling with software upgrades and setting up laptops.
For years, we bounced between Terminal Server and dedicated desktops for remote access, but neither solution was great for us. We had been thinking about the cloud, but, to be honest, we didn’t really understand the technology or the security implications for our customers’ data.
Spectrum took the lead in helping us to truly understand the pros and cons of cloud and the impact on our business and customers.
Today, our firm flourishes with:
- Fast and secure remote access
- Office 365 for email and collaboration
- Reliable access to multiple versions of QuickBooks
We really love working with Spectrum for three simple reasons:
- They’re ALWAYS there for us – even on weekends and late nights. They’re very responsive and we can count on them 100 percent.
- They always get the job done – I don’t think any IT company is perfect, but Spectrum is pretty darn close. We’ve had some really obscure problems and Spectrum has tackled everything we’ve ever thrown at them.
- They go way above and beyond – even helping our clients, who aren’t Spectrum’s clients, directly on multiple occasions.
